Mr. Grumpy

27 Oct

Do you remember Mr. Grumpy? He is the grouchiest person in the world. Mr. Grumpy hates everyone and everything that is around him.

Do you know someone like Mr. Grumpy? Have you ever felt like Mr. Grumpy? So angry and mad and full of bitterness? Have you ever been so much like Mr. Grumpy that you just can’t seem to get out of it?

Dr. Robert Anthony stated:

Most people would rather be certain they’re miserable, than risk being happy.

Why is it that we are so comfortable in the miserable places in our lives, but we can’t seem to be comfortable or enjoy being happy? Most of us go through our lives stuck in such a rut that when we are faced with a good, happy, stable situation, we can’t accept it. We wait for the other shoe to drop so much that we actually force it to happen. We are so used to being miserable that we can’t turn it around.

But God wants better for us and we should want better for us…

God has a way of making the most miserable thing, beautiful.”
~Gianna Jessen, abortion survivor

This brings to mind two songs, both titled Beauty for Ashes, one by Shane and Shane and one by Crystal Lewis. Enjoy!

Shane and Shane’s song says:

beauty for ashes
a garment of praise for my heaviness
beauty for ashes
take this heart of stone and make it Yours, Yours

i delight myself in the Richest of Fair
trading all that i’ve had for all that is better
a garment of praise for my heaviness
You are the greatest taste
You’re the richest of fair

(Psalm 63, Isaiah 61)

Crystal Lewis’ version says:

He gives beauty for ashes
Strength for fear
Gladness for mourning
Peace for despair

When sorrow seems to surround you
When suffering hangs heavy oer your head
Know that tomorrow brings
Wholeness and healing
God knows your need
Just believe what He said

He gives beauty for ashes
Strength for fearGladness for mourning
Peace for despair

When what youve done keeps you from moving on
When fear wants to make itself at home in your heart
Know that forgiveness brings
Wholeness and healing
God knows your need
Just believe what He said

He gives beauty for ashes
Strength for fearGladness for mourning
Peace for despair

I once was lost but God has found me
Though I was bound Ive been set free
Ive been made righteous in His sight
A display of His splendor all can see

He gives beauty for ashes
Strength for fearGladness for mourning
Peace for despair
