Thanksgiving was never meant to be shut up in a single day. ~Robert Caspar Lintner
With Thanksgiving a mere two days away, I thought this quote was so fitting for today’s post. Did you know that the word thanks is mentioned in the Bible 73 times and the word thanksgiving is mentioned 30? Obviously giving thanks is something that God values!
1 Chronicles 16:34 ~ “Give thanks to the Lord for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18 ~ “For everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
There are so many more Scriptures that tell us to be thankful in all things and at all seasons. I’d say it’s pretty clear that we are to be thankful year round, not just this one day.
I love Thanksgiving because it reminds us to be thankful; it reminds us to say a special Thanksgiving to others; it brings our families together under one roof. However, we should never just be thankful on Thanksgiving day. We need to be sure that all year round we are saying thanks to God for what he has done (yes, even in the bad times), to our family and friends for who they are, and to others in the world for whatever the reason.
So, as you sit at your Thanksgiving meal in a couple of days and tell your family what you are grateful for, please be sure to work to carry that spirit of thanksgiving with you long after the turkey is finished, the dishes are clear and the game is won.
My love to you all and thankfulness that you are my cyber friends!
