Christmas Time

I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round, as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys.  ~Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens had it right. For some reason, Christmas time is the one time of the year that most people seem to realize that we are all in this world together. We aren’t running around looking out for ourselves only; finally, this time of year, we are loooking out for others as well. You can almost feel the “spirit” of Christmas in the air. True, when you drive by the mall, Walmart, almost any store, you see hundreds of cars; when you turn on the television, there are ads for every kind of gift imaginable, but when you get out of the car to go into one of those stores, you see the Red Cross taking donations, Toys for Tots bins everywhere and a general feeling of cheer. People smile more at others more, say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays more, and spirits seem to be higher than ever before.

Unfortunately, on December 26th, we tend to forget what the season was all about and go back to our busy, hustle, bustle lives. We forget that we need to be looking out for others all year round. We forget the real reason for this season, which is Jesus Christ birth and all He did for us. So, in this season, try to find things that will help you hold onto the spirit of Christmas after the holidays are over. I will leave you with the following quote:

I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.  ~Charles Dickens
